Covers House and China Navigation Company trade, staff and property, including problems of the lease of Butterfield & Swire property in Shanghai (1904-05), competition with the Japanese, local politics - particularly in Shanghai, the Kiukiang [Jiujiang] Boycott (Aug 1909) and in 1911 the effects of the Revolution on trade and Butterfield & Swire affairs, especially in Hankow [Hankou].
