Scope and Content

Bound volume of letters from the East including section of correspondence from Mackintosh (to May 1895) and Smith concerning House, China Navigation Company and Taikoo Sugar Refinery business particularly Taikoo Sugar Refinery problems arising from Japanese competition, and in autumn 1898 the suggestion of a dockyard for Hong Kong. Some copies of correspondence received into the Hong Kong office from Shanghai and outports is included but is in very poor condition
