Genealogical notes, pedigrees and antiquarian collections

Scope and Content

In this section are grouped the surviving results of several generations of the family who were keenly interested in the history of their own and related families, in the past of the Honour of Pontefract (of which their principal manors, Barwick and Scholes, had once formed a part) and in feudal antiquities generally. They are principally the work of Sir John Gascoigne, 1st Bart. (D10) and his cousin, Richard Gascoigne, the antiquary (see Introduction) in the 17th century and of Sir Edward Gascoigne, 6th Bart. (D15) in the 13th century.
