The main part consists of an in-depth discussion of jazz records and music, with emphasis on the difference between New Orleans and Chicago, quoting extensively from songs; and, in response to Sutton's remarks (in previous letter), D. H. Lawrence's writing, making reference to James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, T. S. Eliot, and R. M. Rilke. (16pp). Part is printed in the Selected Letters, pp. 20 - 22. Letter contains illustrations by Larkin of him being heckled for wearing red trousers; two of nude women; and one entitled 'Welders at work'.
