Letters from Thomas Hulse, referring to various legal matters, including the case of a Mrs Magdalen Norris of Thelwall, concerning £330 8s she was due from an obligation undertaken by Sir Willoughby Aston [John Pickering's father-in-law], now dec'd [Thomas Norris of Speke, Lancashire, was one of the trustees named in John Pickering's marriage settlement]; he informs John that the money is now ready to be paid and asks for directions; the 2nd letter was written in may 1706 and contains a reference to Lord Marlborough's recent victories over the French; the 3rd letter was written to John Pickering at his brother's chambers in Clifford's Inn describing a recent visit by Hulse to Thelwall, where he was attempting to sort out John's financial affairs: he reports on the struggling finances of the estate, where sales of livestock remain low and workers are complaining about lack of payment [this perhaps dates from the period of John's arrest for debt - see EGT/4/1/13].
