Letter from Vincente Rocafuerte to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Rocafuerte tries to dissuade Owen from taking land in the Mexican Republic's province Texas [on which to establish a community]. He explains that the more thought he gives the project the "more obstacles" he meets and believes Owen "will not succeed in Texas". Owen is advised not to take the next Packet [Ship] as he intends.

Rocafuerte does, however, write that he has sent Owen's memorial to the Mexican Government with his recommendation, but fears that it will not be sanction by the Ministry.
