The main theme in this series of letters is the breaking of arrangements for the meeting of Owen and Roy. One sticking point appears to be Owen's reluctance to agree with Roy's wish of confirming that his system is based on Christian principles.

Ram Mohan Roy (signed here as Rammohun Roy), 1772-1833, was an Indian religious, social, and educational reformer who challenged traditional Hindu culture and indicated the lines of progress for Indian society under British rule. He died in Bristol.
