The Ornithological Society was established in 1964. Its objectives were:
"To study, watch and ring birds in the Manchester area, but with no defined limits;
To protect and conserve birds within this area;
To promote and foster an interest in birds amongst students in the University."
The file comprises correspondence on recognition, and includes annual reports for 1965 and1969
