Discusses some of his own poems, with reference to Auden; music; and how the war affects life, making Sutton's painting, Larkin's writing, and relationships not as important as in peace time, quoting from Auden and Isherwood. Quotes in full a poem by J. A. Shaw called 'Poem', and a poem of his own beginning "At school, the acquaintance...". (18pp). Letter includes an illustration of how a book Sutton sent to Larkin arrived all parcelled up.
