The first, for the information of the Cabinet and the Chiefs of Staff in the UK, contains an account of the progress made in the reconstitution of the Armed Forces of India and of the situation concerning British personnel and units in India and Pakistan. In the second part Auchinleck gives a more personal and intimate appraisal of the state of affairs in India and Pakistan, for the personal information of the Prime Minister, the Chief of the Naval Staff, the Chief of the Imperial General Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff only.
