Papers of the Legal Department of the National Coal Board and the British Coal Corporation, comprising papers compiled and/or consulted by the National Coal Board during and after the Aberfan Tribunal, papers concerning scientific research undertaken in preparation for cases relating to pneumoconiosis claims, papers concerning the sale of the freehold of the site of Nantgarw colliery, files concerning industrial relations and documents relating to Briquetting Plant, Port Talbot.

The Legal Department of the National Coal Board served the board itself, and advised its subsidiary and associated undertakings in respect of estates, conveyancing and commercial work, litigation and arbitration, and parliamentary advice.
