Correspondence and pre-publication material relating to 'The Midsummer Bride' by Barbara Leonie Picard (OUP, 1999). 'The Midsummer Bride' was abridged from the story 'Count Alaric's Lady', first published in 'The Faun and the Woodcutter's Daughter' (OUP, 1951) [later republished in 'Selected Fairy Tales' (OUP, 1994)]. The file contains a photocopy of the story 'Count Alaric's Lady' from 'Selected Fairy Tales', annotated with alterations for republication as 'The Midsummer Bride'; photocopied rough illustrations and layouts; photocopied final layouts; a complete set of colour proof spreads; and some correspondence with Oxford University Press and a freelance American editor, Jo Tunstall. Two of these letters are incomplete.
The file also contains what appears to be a page from a typescript draft of the final, abridged version of the story; a typescript treatment for a stage adaptation of the story; and correspondence relating to a theatre script for young readers based on 'Count Alaric's Lady', which was written by an American writer called Aaron Shepard and posted on his website in 1998. A copy of his script is included with the correspondence.
