Scope and Content

File of unpublished pen and ink line drawings to illustrate the stories published in 'The Faun and the Woodcutter's Daughter', by Barbara Leonie Picard (OUP, 1951). These unpublished illustrations were all created by the actor and playwright Nicholas Stuart Gray, who was a good friend of Barbara Leonie Picard. The original folder in which these illustrations were kept bears the manuscript note 'Nick's roughs for The Faun. All rejected'. The published book was illustrated by Charles Stewart. The file also contains a colour proof of the cover for the first edition of the book.
