Dr. Lee's Readership in Chemistry. Testimonials of N. V. Sidgwick, M.A.

Scope and Content

A printed booklet containing materials relating to Nevil Sidgwick's application for Dr. Lee's Readership in Chemistry at the University of Oxford, including an application letter by Sidgwick (December 1902) in which he describes his earlier academic career, notes on his work and testimonials from Hans von Pechmann (Sidgwick's doctoral supervisor at the University of Tübingen), W. W. Merry (Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford), Hastings Rashdall (Fellow and Tutor of New College, Oxford and Preacher of Lincoln's Inn) and G. Wood (Fellow and Tutor at Pembroke College, Oxford). Enclosed in the booklet is a typed draft of Rashdall's testimony with manuscript amendments. There is a slip enclosed in the typescript of Rashdall's testimony featuring a typed note describing and elaborating on its contents; this was probably created by Alton and Weiskittel while they were cataloguing the archive.
