Scope and Content

Edition of the Lincoln Imp, published by Holywell Press. A note on the front in pencil reads '1+2 compil'. Titled "for private circulation only", the publication consists of a number of humorous and satirical pieces detailing contemporary life at Lincoln College. They include:

  • a page of caricatures of figures named as "Hon Ex-Pres" (x2), "Four", "In Point of Fact", and "I Mean To Say";
  • an editorial discussing the desire for a College magazine and emphasising its satirical tone;
  • "Voices in The Lodge", a dialogue exchange between unnamed parties which discusses the new layout of the Lodge;
  • a piece on College Clubs which highlights the new JCR and a report by the 'Rear Admiral' on the status of the 'Fleet';
  • profiles of several members of the Debating Society and their rhetorical skills (LH Gluckstein, AG Lole, JD Hills, Mr Sudbury, RR Martin, DP Miller, L Nicholls, and EJ Lassen);
  • humorous reports on the Fleming Society, the Goblin Club, LCADS, the Theological Society, the student Christian movement, the Cocktail Club, the College choir, the Cox's Union, the Greybeards' Union, the Gaol-Birds' Union, and the Husbands' Union;
  • a series of limericks about Lincoln members, some of whom are identified in pencil (DI Coates, WH Moberley, RR Martin);
  • 'Aunt Susan's Corner for Freshers', dispensing mock advice;
  • humorous 'Answers to Correspondents';
  • the members elected to positions in the Amalgamated Clubs;
  • a report on the performance of the rowers, including a humorous section of 'coach's criticisms';
  • reports on the cricket, tennis, and officer training clubs;
  • 'What we want to know', a series of humorous questions about current events.
