Linen-backed folding map (scale 1 inch to 1 mile; measures 66 cm x 97 cm), in two parts, in hardboard slip case. Ink inscription by Samuel Butler on verso of Western map reads: 'S. Butler 15. Clifford's Inn Fleet Street London E.C. Please return to the address [The fi]nder if poor will be rewarded if rich, thanked.' The Western map is significantly worn and discoloured; the Eastern map appears much newer. Red ink lines marked on both parts of the map show Butler's extensive travels in the region.
