Tenko

Scope and Content

Material relating to the BBC television series Tenko, in which Stephanie Cole played the part of Dr Beatrice Mason, one of a group of female civilians interned in prison camps following the Japanese invasion of Singapore during the Second World War. The series includes Dr Mason's costume from the series as well as her key prop, a wooden soap box containing her medical kit. There are also VHS tapes of all the screened episodes, including the follow-up Reunion episode, as well as production booklets issued by the BBC for the filming of both series 2 and 3, photographs from the series and publicity relating to the series, its immediate reception and its growing importance as a piece of cultural history. There are also personal items from Stephanie Cole's time in the series, including photograph albums from the filming (both in the UK and overseas), correspondence sent to her then-husband Henry Marshall while Stephanie Cole was overseas filming and notes made by Stephanie Cole relating to the development of her character and the story arcs throughout series 2 and 3. The main cast of the series appear to have developed quite strong friendships and Stephanie Cole subsequently acted with several members of the cast throughout her career.
