Van Ryneveld, the South African Chief of the General Staff, stating that, because one of the ships to be used for the transfer of prisoners to the Union has been damaged, it will only be possible to send 555 of the 800 guards required to escort 4,000 German prisoners on the Queen Elizabeth; and asking if the South Africans can supply the deficiency of 245 guards to travel with the prisoners from Capetown to Canada.
