Letter from Auchinleck to Gen. Sir Alan Brooke, Chief of the Imperial General Staff, explaining that, in his statement on the possibility of resuming the offensive at an early date, he has deliberately omitted detailed calculations of prospective tank strength because he has learned from experience the impossibility of reconciling such figures with those issued at home, particularly by the Minister of Defence, but he is sending detailed calculations to the Chief of the Imperial General Staff for his own personal information. Typescript.
