Scope and Content

52 Geo III c 102 (1812) required registration of charitable gifts by the Clerk of the Peace; this power was transferred to County Councils under the Local Government Act 1888 (s3)

Under 16&17 Vict c 137 (s 61) charities were required to return annual statements of accounts to Quarter Sessions; unclear whether these records belong to OCC or QS (not specified in 1888 Act; see QSD/C) but Clerk of Peace was also Clerk of CC

arranged alphabetically by parish; provides a detailed digest of Oxfordshire charities with names of charity & trustees, details of overall income & expend inc description of property owned, securities, payments, etc

presumably based on the surveys and reports of the Charities Commission possibly in response to the Charitable Trusts (Recovery) Act 1891
