De Montfort logoThe main archive collection traces the development and activities of the institution from its founding in 1870 as the Leicester School of Art, its years as Leicester Polytechnic, and its current status as De Montfort University. The records include student registers, annual reports, prospectuses, committee minutes, staff records, press cuttings, orders of proceedings from graduation ceremonies, visitors’ books, and photographs of the campus and classes.

Other archival holdings include the Bryony Lavery Archive, comprising working papers of one of the UK’s foremost modern playwrights, and the National Youth Agency archive, comprising committee minutes, policy documents and project papers.

Special Collections comprises sequences of books and journals of special research interest, including the Kodak Collection relating to the history of photography; the Fashion and Textiles sequence incorporating the library of HATRA, the Hosiery and Allied Trades Research Association; the National Youth Agency library; the History of Leicester sequence, and books donated by the Jain temple situated near the DMU campus.
