Bill in Chancery

Scope and Content

Originators: Selwood Hewitt of Bilham House [pa. Hooton Pagnell] co. Yorks esq and Ann his wife (daughter of William Wrighte), Joseph Fraine of City of Bath esq and Catherine his wife (daughter of William Wrighte), William Hewitt son of Selwood and Ann Hewitt, and Susannah Wrighte Gilbert Cooper (granddaughter of William Wrighte).

Recites indenture dated 3 August 1761 and the will of William Wrighte [see EGR4/1/7/1-2 above]. Upon the death of William Wrighte the trustees sold the estate, and out of the money raised invested £1500 for William Wrighte's daughter Dorothy Wrighte.

Dorothy Wrighte died unmarried, and the originators claim their right to the £1500 and have applied to Nathan Wrighte, the surviving trustee. Nathan Wrighte alleges that owing to claims made by Rt Hon George Harry [Grey (1737-1819), 5th] Earl of Stamford and Hon Booth Grey (1740-1802), executors of the last will of Dorothy Wrighte, he cannot transfer any stock without the direction of the court. Originators deny that Lord Stamford and Booth Grey have any claims.
