Scope and Content

With Sir Henry Maximilian (Max) Beerbohm (1872-1956), author and cartoonist. This consists of an original telegram wishing RD luck with his new venture at the Westminster Theatre in 1943, and two later photocopies of letters dated 16 and 19 March 1944: in /2 RD requests permission to reproduce Beerbohm's 1894 caricature of Oscar Wilde from Pick-Me-Up for use on his poster advertising An Ideal Husband; Beerbohm refuses permission because he feels the caricature brings out the worst side of Wilde and would do an injustice to his memory.

Dated at: London and Abinger Common, Surrey.
