Typescript essay, in which Beaton considers certain features of American life. He acknowledges that all travellers find the customs of foreign countries strange. In his case, for instance, he finds peculiar American catchphrases; the American obsession with wrapping everything in cellophane or aluminium foil; the size of their newspapers; their love of air conditioning; and excessive use of sticky tape at Christmas.
