Model Girls

Scope and Content

Typescript article, in which Beaton discusses the nature of fashion models, the brevity of a model's career, and the camera's ruthless ability to detect the first signs of aging. Beaton goes on to write about the physical features of different models, including Lee Miller, Andrea Johnson, Dorien Leigh, Suzy Parker, and Francoise Hardy. Most models have "no" faces: faces without definition or marked characteristic. But change is afoot. Despite the developments in plastic surgery, the nose is on its way back into fashion. It is no use the wholesalers trying to dictate the changes in perception of what is fashionable in a model, nor the clothes manufacturers, nor hairstylists, etc., since the changes are brought about by those who have an instinctual understanding of how to personify the newest generation.
