Most of the correspondence which comprises incoming letters to Frere and copies of his outgoing mail, is with his fellow bishops including E.C.S. Gibson, Bishop of Gloucester, and his successor, A.C. Headlam; A. Legge, Bishop of Lichfield; A. Robertson, Bishop of Exeter; T.W Drury, Bishop of Ripon; T.B. Strong, Bishop of Oxford; W.O. Burrows, Bishop of Chichester; F.T. Woods, Bishop of Winchester; C.F.Garbett , Bishop of Southwark; F.S.G. Warman, Bishop of Chelmsford; M.B. Furse, Bishop of St Albans; A.J. MacLean, Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness; and Randall Davidson, Archbishop of Canterbury. Other churchmen who corresponded. with Frere on more than one occasion were Canon Srawley of Lincoln and E.K. Talbot C.R.; of the lay correspondents the most prominent were Mr Athelstan Riley and Viscount Falmouth.
