Scope and Content

Including: 1916-1917 Copy extracts of letters from Sir James while on active service, mostly to his brother, Henry, discussing critically the progress of the war; particularly the management of merchant shipping and the prospects of their shipbuilding and marine engineering concerns 1929 Correspondence between Sir James and Winston Churchill on the provision in the Finance Bill to force companies to distribute dividends which would have a deleterious effect on heavy industry
