Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The late Dillwyn Lewis was the headmaster of Maesybryn Primary School, Llantwit Fardre. In 1981, he published Under the Parish Lantern: Llanilltud Faerdref Parish in Pictures (Risca: Starling Press, 1981). A donation resulting from the sale of this book was transferred into a charitable bond administered by the former Mid Glamorgan County Council, and now by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, in favour of three local schools: Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School, Beddau; Maesybryn Primary School, Llantwit Fardre, and Gwauncelyn Primary School, Tonteg. The charity states that interest from this bond is to be paid to these schools and used as a book prize donated to the most outstanding pupil of the year. This prize is known as the 'Under the Parish Lantern Award'.
