STANDING ADVISORY COUNCIL ON RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MINUTES

Scope and Content

Established as a requirement under the Education Reform Act 1988.

Terms of reference include: advising on collective worship and Religious Education in schools; advising on teacher training, methods and materials; determining and reviewing requests by individual schools to alter the character of collective worship; review the LEA Agreed Syllabus on RE; publish annual reports; comment on complaints referred under the 1988 Act in relation to the National Curriculum.

Membership includes: representatives of Church of England and other denominations and religions; representatives of teachers' associations, the LEA and grant-maintained schools following the LEA agreed syllabus.
