Scope and Content

File containing correspondence and associated material relating to Webb's later work with the Puffin Club, undertaken after retirement from her job as editorial director of the Puffin list in 1979. The file includes copies of letters addressed to Jill McDonald and Tony Lacey concerning the development of 'Puffin Post', 'The Egg' and a possible book on Odway. Later correspondence with Lacey concerns the handover of the editorship of Puffin Magazines in 1982, and refers to a series of correspondence with Scoular Anderson, also included in the file, discussing the possibility of commissioning new artwork for magazines, and a replacement for Odway.

Later correspondence relates to Puffin Club Exhibitions, particularly one held in 1982, and includes correspondence with Webb's colleagues at Penguin and other interested parties; other letters soliciting help for the exhibition, including one addressed to Peter Ustinov; copies of letters addressed to the Lord Mayor's Office and the office of the Princess of Wales requesting that they open the exhibition, and related replies; correspondence with the Bishop's Gate foundation concerning the venue; and letters addressed to Roald Dahl and Spike Milligan thanking them for making appearances at the exhibition.

Letters also refer to trips to America and Israel, taken 1981-1982, during which Webb was able to do work on behalf of the Puffin Club.

The file includes occasional letters relating to Webb's other work at Puffin and Penguin, particularly correspondence with Tony Lacey and Liz Attenborough regarding 'I Like This Poem' and possible books for publication. The file also contains one letter from Gioia Caputo, dated July 1981, with a copy of Webb's reply, and a letter from Sylvia Klugman, concerning Puffins in America, with a copy of Webb's reply.
