Scope and Content

Draft material relating to 'Mandeville' by Geoffrey Trease (Macmillan, 1980). The file contains two different, early typescript versions of the first chapter of the book, one of which is heavily annotated in Trease's hand; a complete setting copy typescript of the book, marked up with instructions for the printer and bearing occasional annotations in Trease's hand; and a colour proof jacket for the book. The file also contains two sets of brief manuscript notes in Trease's hand, one titled 'An Author at Work 29/6/79' and one titled 'Slough seminar 20/10/80', which appear to be notes for talks delivered by Trease; and a double-page spread about the death of King William II, photocopied from an unidentified book. This photocopied sheet has no obvious connection with 'Mandeville', or any of Trease's other published works, but has been kept in the file in which it was originally found.

Related Material

'Mandeville' is the first in a series of books by Trease about Sir Renold Mandeville. For draft material relating to 'Saraband for Shadows' and 'The Cormorant Venture', the other two books in the series, see GT/03/11 and GT/03/12.
