Administrative / Biographical History

The association was incorporated in 1894 to protect the interests of the coal trade in all questions relating to the conveyance and shipment of coal and colliery materials, colliery taxation and other matters affecting the South Wales and Monmouthshire coal trade. It consisted of the chief colliery owners in South Wales. The chairman in 1917 was T J Callaghan, and secretary was C P Hailey. Later Joseph Davies tookover as secretary.
