Dunollie

Note

In October 1939 the company set aside out of profits a sum of £50,000 as a financial reserve in connection with its Military and National Service Allowances Scheme. £30,000 of this would otherwise have been available under the Profit Sharing Scheme. However the company was able to meet all claims for Services Allowances out of current revenue and the reserve fund remained intact. In April 1945 the Directors and the Profit Sharing Committee decided to devote the £30,000 to some community purpose. A Joint sub-committee was set up and reported, in May 1946, on a number of alternatives, of which the provision of a Rest House for employees was given first priority. The Sub-committee had found a suitable house which was for sale; Dunollie, Filey Road, Scarborough. It was then decided that the company should meet the cost of purchasing and equipping the house (c £18,000), so that all the Money available to the Profit Sharing Committee could be used for running it. An Advisory Committee appointed by the Profit Sharing Committee advised the Labour Manager on the general administration of the scheme.
