Administrative / Biographical History

The Doncaster National Schools were founded in 1816 and are shown in West Laithe Gate on the 1854 edition Ordnance Survey map (scale 6 inches : 1 mile). In 1867 the schools were moved to a new site adjoining the parish church. The records of the infants, mixed and boys departments have been catalogued under references SR14, SR18 and SR15 respectively. The girls department closed in 1920 and pupils transferred to the Holmes School. When the Holmes School closed in 1930 pupils transferred to the new Doncaster Parish Church Junior Mixed School, formerly the boys department of the National Schools.
