Administrative / Biographical History
The Ynishir Steam Coal Company Limited was formed by James Thomas. The company commenced the sinking of the Standard Nos.1 and 2 pits, Ynyshir, in 1875-1876. Standard Colliery has also been known as Ynishir Steam Collieries, Ynishir Standard, Old Standard and New Standard. In August 1914, Standard Colliery was acquired by United National Collieries Limited. National Grid reference for Standard Colliery: ST024932.
