TRAINED NURSES DEPARTMENT

Scope and Content

The Trained Nurses Department began in early April 1908, an extension of the Private Nursing Department successfully commenced by the Retreat in 1902. The Trained Nurses Department had a separate location, at 4 Belle Vue Terrace. The function of the Department was to supply nurses trained at the Retreat for the nursing of patients privately in their own homes or elsewhere. A Male Nurses Department for the same purpose was later also established (see RET 5/13).
