Letter from The[ophilus] Jones, Brecon, to Col. James Lloyd, Mabws near Lampeter. 'Cadno' is the usual word in South Wales for fox. Derives 'barely' from 'bara-lys or the bread herb'. Asks him to send the grant to the Earl of Essex and any other old papers. The Lloyds of Danyrallt. The Bishop of St Davids' charge to that Chapter consists of repeated attacks upon Fenton's book will help the sale of the book among dissenters. Sorry for Fenton of whose abilities he once thought more highly than he does at present. Ellis Wyn has behaved most disingenuously; he has borrowed the whole of his plan [of Y Bardd Cwsg], much of the substance and frequently the words of Quevedo without over informing his countrymen that such a person or such an author had appeared in the world, and yet perhaps if the writer can wipe or wash his draggled tail (for he is as well as his master Quevedo a most dirty dog he may appear in an English dress for he has merit, humour and some originality.
