Administrative / Biographical History

Evan R.Thomas was the tenant of Bodeilio from 1843 to 1845, followed by his son, John Rice Thomas. Hugh Owen was the nephew of John Rice Thomas and worked for him as a labourer and general amanuensis. He married Jane, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Jones of Rhyd. Rhyd was initially leased and then bought by Elizabeth Jones to provide for herself and her family when her elderly husband became incapable of supporting them in their farm, Nant Uchaf, Llaneugrad. Elizabeth Jones died in 1908, leaving Siop y Rhyd to her daughter, Jane, who died in 1947. Jane left the shop to her two daughters, Elsie and Gwyneth.
