Administrative / Biographical History

The Government White Paper Education: A Framework for Expansion (1972) set out the Government's plans for the expansion of higher education in the non-university sector for the period up to 1981. Circular 7/73 subsequently issued by the Department of Education and Science (DES) asked Local Education Authorities to prepare possible development plans to ensure the attainment of the target number of students for 1981 for their own area.
