Scope and Content

The file contains correspondence and enclosures, file notes and drawings and mainly relates to the installation of telephones at various places in the building, covering the acceptance of responsibility for the telephone instruments installed by the Post Office, the appropriate heating and ventilation, outstanding payments to contractors Pye Business Communications Ltd, P A B X telephone system installation, difficulties with locating telephones in the box office, training of operators, testing of Pye Business Communications Ltd's work by the Post Office, offices' direct exchange lines and their numbers, the installation of coin boxes, exchange lines for the Old Vic annex when it is transferred, the 'opening date' of the phone system, spur units, conduits, answering machines, the telephone apparatus room, faults and excessive traffic overloading the system and an extension of the switchboard.
