Rejected or unpublished manuscripts from Accession 2

This series comprises manuscripts or proofs of six poetry collections and one volume of essays; these were submitted to Michael Schmidt for consideration, but were not ultimately published by Carcanet, although some of the writers represented had previous Carcanet publications. In some cases, the work here had already been accepted by overseas publishers and Carcanet was approached as a possible British publisher; in other cases, manuscripts went on to be accepted by other publishers.

In the absence of any obvious original order, the material has been arranged alphabetically by author's surname.
