Literary writing by Margarete Berger-Hamerschlag

Scope and Content

Typescripts and manuscripts of stories in English and German, including children's stories such as The Bungalow at Boxhill, and The Lost Tune, an illustrated story featuring a child called Florian, as well as some stories incorporating elements of MBH's autobiography. There are also numerous playscripts and poems in English and German. There are lists of MBH's short stories and poems in MBH 4/39, and in some cases these give the dates and the locations of when and where they were written. Also in MBH 4/39 there is a proof of a short story was was intended to be published by Frick Verlag in Vienna with an annotation on the verso stating that it was 'not printed as a book after the publisher changed'. [This may have been in 1947, when there were changes at Frick Verlag.] The same note also lists the following short stories (or poems?) which were possibly also intended for publication: Celia (MBH 4/14); Magie und Glaube; Erste Liebe; Nefretete; Brief von Livia; and Die Kinderzeichnung. It is not known whether any of the stories were ultimately published. Previously in MBH/files 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 23, 24.
