While the vast majority of the tours that Edwin Morgan went on from the 1950s to the late 1990s were organised by the British Council, he was also invited by smaller organisations and some individuals who wished to have him come and read his poetry. Quite often EM kept a journal during his travels. In some instances he wrote reports or articles about his experiences of the country. He also kept an assortment of ephemera from his visits, including flyers and newspaper cuttings.
