Scope and Content

Abraham Eleazar. Abraham Juif, Prince, Prêtre lévite, Astrologue et Philosophe. [Livre des figures hyerogliphiques.] Late eighteenth century. This manuscript lacks a title but the text is the same as that of nos. 368 (MS Ferguson 154) and 477 (MS Ferguson 17). The frontispiece is drawn or traced on thin paper with brown ink and pasted down; there are six hand-coloured engravings opposite pages 35, 46, 61, 107, 129, 175, and one watercolour drawing of the 'Massacre of the Innocents' opposite p. 154., apparently copied from the illustrations in 477 (MS Ferguson 17) or from a common original, and one watercolour drawing of the Massacre of the Innocents which differs considerably from that in no. 477(MS Ferguson 17).
Printed list of alchemical symbols inserted opposite page 27.
Inscribed: J. Ferguson 8 Nov. 1893.
