This grouping of material consists of Strachan's correspondence with a range of British and Irish poets, novelists, biographers, architectural historians, journalists and translators. There are bundles of correspondence with Stevie Smith, Sylvia Townsend Warner and Irene Rathbone, and other figures like Cecil Day-Lewis, Louis MacNeice, Nikolaus Pevsner and John Redwood Anderson are represented by one or two letters. There is also correspondence with biographers and editors researching writers whom Strachan knew, including Nancy Cunard, Townsend Warner and Smith. In addition there are letters from former pupils of Strachan who went on to work in various creative fields. In some cases, topics of correspondence are described at item level, but other general topics covered throughout include Strachan's translations, responses to his poetry and other writings, and his response to books by other writers. A number of Old Stortfordians describe their work, reminisce about their time at the College and express their appreciation of Strachan's inspirational teaching.
