Scope and Content

From Shoreham, Kent, to [Sarah Gwynne junior]. His host [Revd. Vincent Perronet] assures him that he needs no further evidence that it is God's will that Charles and Sarah be married, as long as Sarah's mother has no objections. Indeed Perronet sees divine workings in every step. Charles is highly gratified at the great affection with which Sarah is regarded by Perronet.

Spiritual matters are discussed.

He would like to borrow some franks from her if she has any spare.

From London

Charles preached last night at Shoreham on a text from Mathew 3. The audience was the largest which he has ever seen there. The Lord has certainly kindled a flame among the society founded by Perronet and 'several are under strong conviction'.

He arrived at their friend's [?Ebenezer Blackwell] house in Lewisham by nine o'clock accompanied by [Thomas] Butts. Their friends spoke of Sarah with great affection. The gardener seemed very affected by their prayer session. They also sang the hymn 'The Lot the fatal Lot', a transcript of which is enclosed.
