Committee on Recognition of Departments and Teachers for B.Ed courses in Colleges of Education Minutes

Scope and Content

A sessional committee of Senate established in 1966, responsible for recognising departments and teachers recommended by local Colleges of Education for Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses. By the mid-1960s, the B.Ed. was being introduced as a degree for trainee teachers, studying in teacher training colleges (University students studying education did not take this degree). The University already had responsibility for regulating standards at the colleges through its School of Education. The Committee's role was to approve the colleges' departments and teachers to teach the B.Ed. degree.
