Scope and Content

The overseers' papers include

settlement, removal and bastardy orders,

apprenticeship indentures, accounts and

bills, orders of the City Quarter

Sessions relating to the Poor Law, rate

books and some inventories of parish

properties.

In the 17th century, the Churchwardens

of Oxford St. Michael acted as

treasurers for the poor. Their Accounts

for 1635-1709 may be found bound into

PAR211/4/F1/3-4.
