[00:01:44] Industry: At 14 to work in Ystalyfera tinplate works, labouring 12/0d pw, promoted to shearer's assistant, 13/10d pw. [00:02:13] Prices: 36 eggs for 12p, or 44 boxes of matches. [00:05:49] Industry: Ystalyfera ironworks largest in world, gone for long time. [00:06:48] Industry: Tinplate works c 150 workers. [00:06:59] Industry: C worked Sheffield, munitions, 1940-45, returned, works closed 1946, £17 payoff. [00:08:52] Industry: Heavy work, 6 hour shifts, varied. [00:10:29] Industry: Tinplate works manager: Stephen Mell[00:?], son-in-law took over; private firm, family owned and run. [00:10:50] Industry: Labour relations good, v few strikes. [00:20:00] Leisure: Cinema twice pw. [00:20:46] Credit: People lived on credit, week to week. [00:21:45] Environment: First hooter 05.30am: much noise, smoke, dust. [00:23:50] Industry: Processes: shearing, only job. [00:24:24] Wages: 13/10d pw start, £3/10/0d pw at finish. [00:28:26] Canal: Only one barge used; for timber in 1920s. [00:30:10] Canal: Canal water used for works. [00:32:11] Mining: Colliery ventilation. [00:37:52] Social Attitudes: Social attitudes to out of wedlock births. [00:45:20] Prices: 5d-6d per pint local, could get pint for 4d in Swansea, 1931-32. 12 pubs at least in Ystalyfera at time. [00:46:46] Brewing: Miller's Arms, Clydach, only local brewery.

[00:14:51] Industry: Post tinworks: concrete blocks, then wagon repair.
