Scope and Content

Patient case notes in this collection take a number of different forms. Rodger had notebooks filled with notes on certain patients he examined. It is likely he took these notebooks with him when he had to visit different hospitals and that is why there is no obvious structure to the data within the notebooks. The notebooks also contain other notes on subjects and meetings not related to patients.

There are also a number or large folders covering different time periods with case notes inside organised by patient surname. These folders contain anything between 50-75 different cases. For each patient there could be psychiatric reports, notes, correspondence between Rodger and other health professionals, and correspondence between doctors and patients.

Some cases were so signficant or prolonged that they are contained within separate individual folders. These have been kept together and arranged in chornological order. Sometimes these were cases that were passed on to Rodger by colleagues so that he could look over the notes and comment.

Lastly there are 6 large notebooks containing Rodger's manuscript notes in pencil. Each notebook focuses one patient and seems to record the patient's dreams and thoughts. It is likely that these were filled in by Rodger during a one-to-one session with the patient.
